people and said, play, we set up 3 points around the city and said play, make this stuff connect. see if we can talk to each other. we had the national guard above us in a helicopter, even though it was really foggy, they didn't see much, but they demonstrated proof of concept that they can connect the video feed. we learned there are limitations in things of band width and video feed that i'm not qualified to talk about, i'm strictly a push to talk guy. we know as a city when the earth moves, things fall, we get a lot of rubble. that's going to be one of our critical, critical things we have to do. we have to be able to move material and personnel and one of the ways we're going to be doing that is how do we actually get the debris off the road so we can put things back to work. so that was the command of control exercise. we had the marine corps, the navy, and the national guard all working with our department of public works figuring out how would they work together. we didn't give them a lot of coaching, we just kind of put them in a tent and said here is your scenario, here's

, parts of pennsylvania. what we will see is it will mix in with another storm. new york city, south connecticut, and south of boston going to get the biggest snow totals. let me show you what you can expect in the way of snow totals. the pink area is two to five inches, broad brush in pennsylvania. see that maroon spot south of boston, that's where we get the five to ten-inch area. near a foot south of boston locally. it's going to be an interesting one here at the airports. boston and new york included, in heavy delays today. and you have moderate delays back here. detroit, chicago, some cold and some wind going to affect them. los angeles will have rain. so, it doesn't just stop on the east coast. we have travel trouble in other places. but on the roads, anywhere in the pacific northwest could be a little slippery. and certainly, with this storm, again, from ohio all the way to maine. back to bianna. >> a travel nightmare for so many people. ginger, thank you. >>> we're going to turn to the desperate, last-ditch effort to try to keep the country from falling off the fiscal cliff,

back on its feet after it was walloped by the blizzard. this city, brought to a virtual standstill. the storm dumping more than seven inches of snow here. >> there we go. >> reporter: residents struggled to dig out. whiteout conditions across the lower midwest states. in southern illinois, a foot and a half of snow. in cleveland, ohio, freezing rain turned to snow. cancelling about 80% of flights in and out of cleveland. in arkansas, power lines snapped, leaving nearly 200,000 customers in the dark. and in the south, devastating tornadoes, causing panic as they touched down. this surveillance video taken at a walgreen's in mobile, alabama, shows a tornado ripping through the parking lot. inside, terrified customers scrambling for cover. from texas to alabama, at least 34 tornadoes rumbled across the area. this twister had winds of more than 110 miles per hour. flattening this church and anything unlucky enough to be in its path. until this morning, the storm is bearing down and creating havoc in the northeast. in new york city, wind gusts of nearly 50 miles per hour. upstate, in bu

. but you can see from boston back into hartford, right down into new york city, it's all rain at this point. we did have a line of heavy thunderstorms move through new york city last night, producing torrential downpours and very gusty winds, but look at some of the snowfall totals so far. there are so many areas from new york through pennsylvania back into ohio that have already picked up a foot or more of snow. in connecticut, we picked up about six inches of snow before it did change over to rain, which it's going to stay as all rain at this point, but we do still have winter storm warnings and advisories posted, now mostly across central and northern new england, where we are still looking at additional snowfall accumulations. and look at that all across northern vermont, areas that want it, especially in the ski resorts, should pick up more than two feet of snow. the purple area is where we should see a foot or more, and areas back across massachusetts only an additional inch or so, especially inland areas where it is still all snow right now. as for wind gusts, the jersey shore, brick

a major snow event for the northeast i-95 cities. so we should be doing okay there. but still, nonetheless, snowy travel for many across the appalachians and northern new england. going back to wednesday, d.c., certainly impacted. pittsburgh, on back into cleveland, all these airports where we expect the snow, there will be severe weather in raleigh down to the south of this. but it's all go up to the north because the storm hasn't gotten into the thick of it yet. thursday, up into new england goes the meat of the storm. but backlash snow and wind. and on friday, we got the all go as we are now in a break between storms. but a break is the keyword there. but here comes the trough of low pressure sliding off to the great lakes and the rocky mountains. and that means a new storm will develop and impact these areas into saturday. a lot of people potentially heading back this weekend. more rain and snow. right now, it's too early to call from new york up to boston. rain or snow. but right now, d.c. looks like they're right on that rain/snow line. this one could be much more impactful for the n

on tonight, and right now though it's a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain through oklahoma city and dangerous thunderstorms with reports of pea-sized hail and you can see the lightning strikes popping up across dallas, texas into she haveport and all this energy sliding northeast. a lot of moisture coming up from the gulf that's just enhancing it. what does that mean for today? we don't have a tornado watch yet, but i anticipate we'll see one for this afternoon, especially for the areas highlighted in the brighter orange color. good risk for a moderate risk for the risk of tornadoes, hail and possible damaging winds. some of these winds could get up to 50 miles per hour or greater. if it's not enough where we have the lightning and thunder and rain we also have dense fog. make it any more dangerous to see if there e's debris blown apart. this is really tough this morning for those that are traveling. be very careful with the fog out there and snow building in later today and tonight. a real mess for this christmas. i hope everyone can stay inside as much as possible. >> lots for
